I was able to start on my scene outline a day (got the first scene outlined yesterday! Took me four hours because of the scene question template I had to type up, but hey) early due to being able to do most of my research after the scene outline!
(I got some really cool ninja and samurai study books from the library, and even one on the Edo period, which is the time period I’m re-imagining for the series. I’m doing legit research now. ?)

(Why am I re-imagining the time period? Historically, the art of ninjutzu DIED around 1600. Gasp. So in my re-imagination of the time period, the art was started back up again in time to have a full-blown generation or two of shinobi and kunoichi by 1680, when a new emperor took the throne, which is a reeeally huge plot point in the book. I’d tell you the other reason I’m having to add to history, but that would spoil the entire series for a particular group of people in my audience I’m gearing this towards.)

If you do wanna check it out, you might want to keep in mind that it probably won’t make a lot of sense to you. I abbreviate stuff, throw in notes only I would understand, and talk about a lot of plot structure stuff 98% of writers I’ve talked to have no idea about.

Especially when I try to tell my sister my plots… I’ll be like, “So, they headed off over there to this place – hey, did I tell you that I created part of a language for those people and I’ll probably have to rewrite it and stuff? Anyways, so then there’s this guy – and guess what? He got kidnapped and forced into the bad guys service, and then like, we’re really cruel to him. Do you know how unfair writers are to their characters? If the golden rule was in service, I’d be dead. Like, Will is like, kidnapped, and breaks a bunch of bones and gets all this bad stuff happen to him and Nathan just becomes second to the king. Wait, what was I talking about? Right. Their journey over the mountains. Anywaaaays…..” 😀 😀 😀

I need your help – should I put romance in my novel or not? Story: Depressed, physically abused girl sucked into fantasy world. Stays with new nymph friend. Epidemic breaks out, (the oils of a plant rub into your skin, and poison your heart. It’s contagious) and she volunteers as a nurse, since she has a human heart. Her friend’s brother is one of the victims…??

Ooh, that sounds amazing! If it works for your story, I think you should! When editing, if the story’s sole and primary focus is lost because of the romantic subplot, focus on just the main plot and strip everything else out. But if it’s a great complement (that’s not a misspelling of “compliment” I promise ?) to your story and doesn’t detract from the main theme, go for it!

As long as it doesn’t take away from the main focus and instead would add nicely to it, you might just go for it! 😀 XD

Haha, so do I! Stealing AG’s stock photos is totally fine. Everyone knows they’re AG’s. As long as you don’t pass them off as your own photos, you’re not doing anything illegal. Okay first of all, don’t worry. As long as you cite where you got the image, you can use it. It doesn’t infringe on copyright that way, as in you’re not saying look at my cool picture but instead correctly referring to whose image it really is. Second, what in the world is pantsing? (even my autocorrect doesn’t know that one.)
That’s quite the scene outline! I am way less organized than that. Usually I have the main character, and a basic idea of what’s going to happen, and then I just see what happens from there. Often if I outline too much, my characters rebel against me, and go off and want to do their own thing anyway. Sigh.
I had this one character who I wanted to be a tough cowboy type, but he kept getting in the way. He refused to do anything I told him to do. So infuriating. I ended up having to just let him be who he wanted to be instead. LOL!! (he’s way cooler now, or at least he thinks so.)
Also, sometimes the plot goes off in all kinds of different directions too. I just trust that if it gets too crazy, I can rein it in later.
Still, your perseverance and discipline for outlining is amazing. Like a ninja. 😛

Pantsing is a term used by writers to refer other writers who “fly by the seat of their pants”, or do no or next to no outlining, plotting, or planning for their book before they write it.
Thank you so much! Haha, my characters used to be the same. After working on this project since early 2016, I keep on discovering new things about the characters, but basically I know them well enough to know how the’ll act. Well, hopefully… let’s hope they do no rebelling this time around! The first time around they fell in love against my strict orders not to.
