Character Interview with Josie +MDC

Hey, guys! What’s up? A few weeks ago, my friend Josie from Josie on the Go and I decided to collab, and this is one of the things we thought we’d do — character interviews!

I’ll be interviewing her characters Kamri and Erin from her recent Camp NaNo novel Halfway to Fourteen.

Halfway to Fourteen synopsis

Kamri Taylor’s had enough.

Everyone at school seems to hate her. The “friends” from her hometown have rejected her for being too stuck up for their liking. Her older sister is
trying to raise her on minimum wage. On top of that, Kamri doesn’t even know if she’s coming home to food every day.

For the good of everyone, Kamri decides to run off to L.A. in the middle of the night. She’ll be out of everyone’s hair then, won’t she?

Kamri runs into Erin and Mason, two kids from her school, before she can leave. She barely remembers them, yet one conversation makes Kamri
reconsider.

Not even a week later, school projects and hidden letters pull Kamri into their friend group. What they think is a simple challenge is about to
change their lives.

Be sure to check out Josie’s post to see my characters’ very shallow answers to her questions!

Aaaand… let us begin!

What is something you absolutely can’t stand?

Kamri: Can’t stand, oh, I can’t stand people who are rich and snobby.

Erin: When people are judgemental.

What is your heart’s deepest desire?

Erin: I desire to be able to follow my passions.

Kamri: I desire to have a future.

What’s your favorite feeling?

Kamri: Thrilled. Not excited, but just filled with a good feeling that makes you forget about your problems.

Erin: Freedom.

What are you the most ashamed of?

Kamri: The fact that I’m from a poor neighborhood. I feel like it defines me as someone without a future.

Erin: The fact that my parents are… well to do. It’s pressuring to live up to them.

What are you the most proud of?

Kamri: That I’ve gotten so many scholarships.

Erin: My drawings and to a lesser extend my art.

What makes you feel the happiest?

Erin: When the days are rainy and there’s no school, and I have my room to myself and can do whatever I want.

Kamri: When I’m singing, most likely. I don’t have as many opportunities to do it anymore, though.

Last one! Relive the worst moment of your life. If you had full control over the situation, what would you change?

Kamri: I would do whatever it takes to make my dad stay.

Erin: I would have never shared my passions. It would have saved me a lot of trouble years ago.

Aaaaaand that’s it! Immediately after her characters’ answers I went “Okay, now I’m even more interested in your novels. XD” Be sure to check out Josie’s post to see my characters’ answers to her questions! She interviews my characters Hinoki and Ari from my very first novel Loyalty – Book I.

Also, I need to smash a May Destruction List (MDC) in here, so here we go. *cue the bored groans*

Permission to skim granted.

Wrapping up April…

God

1. READ PSALMS – DEFINITELY DESTROYED
Yep! I was wary of facing Psalm 119 for the third time, but it just sprung up on me, and in reading it, it actually flew by. I screenshotted several verses I loved and actually surprised myself with how much I enjoyed reading the longest chapter in the Bible. XD I’m really glad I was able to read Psalms this month.

2. CONTINUE USING JOURNAL – TOTALLY TERMINATED
Why yes, yes I did indeed do that.

3. THIS LONG PRAYER GOAL TITLE – Perhaps?
I know there was the day where I pulled my first all-nighter in editing The Goodbye, a stop motion video as an Easter outreach to doll collectors. But then again, I was praying a lot with “OH MY! LORD HELP ME! O_O” in trying to finish it, so I’ll leave this with a perhaps. XD

4. BUTTON SWAP WITH 50 BLOGS – AH, NO.
Yeah, that didn’t happen. I think I got seven or eight blogs to button swap with me. XD

5. SEND $20 TO MISSIONARY MICHAEL BIGGS – AWESOMELY ANNIHILATED
*winces at sudden bank account balance* Yep.

6. FEED ANOTHER CHILD IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY – DEFINITELY DESTROYED
*wails at another sudden change in bank account balance* I’m just kidding. God blessed me with finances big time this month. Nothing we ever give comes back to us without being multiplied! #Luke6:38

Writing

7. THIS SUPER LONG WRITING TITLE I DON’T FEEL LIKE LISTING – OVER-THE-TOP TOTALLY COMPLETELY UTTERLY TERMINATED
My goal was 30 hours in plotting my second novel, Loyalty – Book II: Pursuit of No One during Camp NaNoWriMo. I spent 55 hours! (You should see my plot board now) I also started an entire novella backstory for one of the main character (33k total!). I wrote the last 7k this May and finally finished it at 7 AM of the morning I’m writing this post. *sniffs* It is so tragic and beautiful.

8.. POST CLASSIFIED STORY – EPICALLY EXTINGUISHED
Who read Barabbas: The Inside Story? That was it!

For May…

God

1. Read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John

2. Continue using journal

3. Pray every day

Madi Grace Ministries

4. Send funds to Michael

5. Feed another child

Writing

6. Edit second draft of Loyalty – Book I: To the Death

(Thoughts on the tagline title?)

7. Completely finish plotting out Loyalty – Book II: Pursuit of No One

Do you like to interview characters? Any big goals for the month of May?

Much love and I am praying for you!

P.S. What kind of fish tastes best with peanut butter? (… this is a joke). ?

That character interview was so neat! I really enjoyed it and it her story or book sounds so cool! 😀 Is she published? I’ll have to go read your character interview! Your goals sound epic, and I’m glad you conquered most all of them! 😀

You know, only people who read your last photostory would get the joke at the end, it’s a jellyfish!! HAHA! Those notes on the backs of the pages in that story were funny! 😉

Way to go on your book writing and such! I pray every day for you with your books! When do you think you’ll send the first one to a publisher? Just curious. 😉 And your Barabbas Story was epic!!! I mean, like, how do you write so well?? AHH! 😀

Once I’m done with the editing, I’ll see about sending it out to a bunch of publishers and see where God takes it! 😀 And aw, thank you so much! I’m so glad you liked it! You’re so sweet! 😀
