The Mind-Blowingly Epic Names of God

Before we dive in, I just wanted to say Mondays with Madi is going away. I might want to post these types of posts on a day other than Monday, so why be limited to only Mondays when there’s a perfectly good and convenient Thursday, too? ?

Ahem. WELCOME TO THE LAST MONDAYS WITH MADI. Soon to be… Any-Other-Day-I-Want with Madi. ?

I just wanted to say something quick on what an awesome God we serve. Our God is not just a god. He’s so many other things to us, which is what sets Him apart from other gods. He’s our Provider, Savior, Comforter, Guider, Teacher, Healer, BEST FRIEND EVER LIKE SERIOUSLY — I could go on and on.

But for now, here are seven mind-blowingly epic names of God (and they all resonate with Psalm 23 — just see!).

(When I was typing “mind-blowing”, my computer’s autocorrect turned it into “mind-glowing”…? ?)

JEHOVAH ROHI // THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

Psalm 23:1

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

When God directs our paths and guides us in life, it’s only to greatness, better and beyond! Let’s be unswayed and undaunted by the broad and wrong ways the world wants us to go (they lead to hell, just sayin’) and let God take us to the greater places we were destined to be. ?

I wanna follow You forever / I’m all in / I got the whole world at my back tryin’ to tell me take the broad way / but I’ve seen first thing that’s the wrong way / don’t wanna die one day and find I threw my life away

–Matthew Parker – “I Won’t Look Back”

JEHOVAH JIREH // THE LORD WILL PROVIDE

Genesis 22:13-14

… And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.

Psalm 23:1

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

When we have the Creator of the universe as our source of provision, there are no limits or boundaries to where He can take us! ? He doesn’t just meet our needs. He totally boggles and blows our minds with his superabundant awesomeness. #limitless

Superabundant is a real word. ?

Later in Psalm 23, it says in verse five that He doesn’t just fill our cup up. Our cup runs over. It overflows with blessings, the NLT says. That means the only problem we’ll ever have is where to put all the overflow blessing! We just gotta believe it, reach out and take it. ?

JEHOVAH RAPHA // THE LORD THAT HEALS

Exodus 15:26

… For I am the Lord who heals you.

Doctors are amazing, but there’s only One who can cure the incurable diseases. Jesus is still in the miracle-working business! ?

JEHOVAH SHALOM // THE LORD OUR PEACE

Judges 6:24

And Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and named it Yahweh (or Jehovah)-Shalom (which means “the Lord is peace”)…

Psalm 23:2

He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams.

Jesus is even called the Prince of Peace. There’s a perfect, calming, still peace that comes when we’re fully trusting in our awesome God and have our mind fixed on Him instead of our problems or worries like Isaiah 26:3 says!

JEHOVAH TSIDKENU // THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS

Jeremiah 23:6

Now this is His name by which He will be called: The Lord our Righteousness.

Psalm 23:3

He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

Righteousness = being in right standing with God

We can’t be “righteous” on our own — that’s why we accept JESUS into our hearts! ☺️

JEHOVAH SHAMMAH // THE LORD EVER PRESENT

Ezekiel 48:35

And from that day the name of the city will be ‘The Lord Is There.’[b]”

Psalm 23:4

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

Never fear, the Lord is here! ? God is our ever-present, never-ending, never-failing help in time of need — our Best Friend for real! Fear and worry can’t stay when our God is with us. ? (Watch them RUN FOR THE HIIIILLS!)

JEHOVAH NISSI // THE LORD OUR BANNER

Exodus 17:8-15

(v. 15) Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh (or Jehovah)-Nissi (which means “the Lord is my banner”)…

Psalm 23:5

You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. …

There’s no greater insult you can give your enemy than to be feasting right in front of him while he’s trying to threaten you.

Enemy: I’m taking you out.
You: Dude. Hold on. I’m busy eating this chicken wing.
Enemy: But — but — prepare for your death!
You: nom nom nom chicken

?

In the face of adversity, we know that we are God’s. He’s our banner. He goes before us. He fights our battles. We’ve got the Kings of kings and the Lord of lords on our side, folks. ?

THERE WE GO. Seven mind-blowingly (aaaand my computer turned it into mind-glowingly again ?) epic names of our epic God! Something cool you might like to try is when praying this week is using the Name(s) you need — for example, if you’ve been going through a hard time, thank Jehovah Shalom for being the Lord your Peace.

I know a testimony of one lady who was about to be kicked out of her apartment or do something desperate to pay the rent.  But her landlord literally felt prompted by the Lord to pay it for her after she prayed using the name Jehovah Jireh!

Our God is amazing! You might try using one of His Names this week in prayer and watch Him do exactly what God does. ☺️

Which Name of these is your favorite?

P.S. July 31st-August 5th I’ll be gone at youth camp. See you when I get back! *waves*

These are great, Madi! I think my favorite might be the first one, Jehovah Rohi. It’s such a comfort to know God is always there for us, protecting us as a shepherd protects his sheep. 🙂
Also I love the little dialogue you did beneath the last name (Jehovah Nissi). XD SO FUNNY!
