Think God Can’t Use You? Think Again.

God … has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
(2 Corinthians 5:18)

Not the pastors.

Not the preachers.

Not the evangelists.

Us.

But what if you’re not qualified? What if you haven’t been to Bible school? What if you’re young? What if you’re shy? How do we even do this? 40% of the world is a lot.

My last post, The Great Commission: Not the Great Suggestion, left off there. We went over the fact that every Christian is called to fulfill the Great Commission—telling the whole world about the One Who made a way.

Today I’m going to debunk some of those “I’m not qualified” excuses and tell you about the only qualification required to let God use you.

THE THREE DEADLY REASONS

Many Christians don’t let themselves be used by God for any of these three reasons:

  1. They don’t know they should.
  2. They don’t feel a passion to.
  3. They don’t feel qualified.

We already covered that first reason in the last postevery Christian can fulfill the Great Commission and let themselves be used by God.

I’ll have to cover reason #2 soon—it’s the saddest. I could literally cry if I thought about it long enough.

We’re covering the third reason right now—they don’t feel qualified.

BUT HERE’S THE TRUTH, FOLKS.

If the qualification for God to use us depended on what we felt, God would hardly use anyone.

I’m begging to be pinned! Just hover over me!

Too many people live and die by their feelings. But feelings are the most unreliable source in the world. One minute, you can feel on top of the world. The next minute, you can feel like your dog just died. Why base everything you do on something as unstable and unreliable as that?

(Hint: There’s no reason why you should ever do that. People make terrible decisions based off of their feelings in the moment.)

You don’t have to feel qualified. Stop going by your feelings telling you you’re too young or you’re “not a good Christian”. You just have to know the qualification, because truth is… you’re already qualified.

THERE IS ONLY ONE QUALIFICATION TO LETTING GOD USE YOU.

(Okay, a mini pre-qualification is being saved, because that’s the moment you’re called to the ministry. But I will argue that God can even use non-Christians in His plan. But we’re focusing on the big picture here.)

I’m begging to be pinned! Just hover over me!

And that is to be open to the Holy Spirit.

You may be a seven-year-old. No problemo! God can still use you. I was seven when I began telling others about Jesus. I went from person to person on the playground and asked them if they had heard about Jesus.

I actually didn’t even know the following Scripture yet:

“Let no one despise your youth.”
(1 Timothy 4:12)

No one told me I was too young. I wasn’t telling myself I was too young.

I’m begging to be pinned! Just hover over me!

All I knew was how much I radically loved Jesus, how much He radically loved me, and how much He radically loved everyone I was telling about Him.

So I let myself be open to the Holy Spirit.

You think God’s ability to use you is limited by the things you think are disqualifications? We serve a way mightier God than that, bro.

You may not have been to Bible school. I haven’t! And I’ve still won over four hundred people to Jesus.

You may be shy. That makes two of us, buddy; I’m super shy, too. I freak out about social situations, avoid most people and conversations, and play it anti-social all the time to the point where my dad had to bribe me to start a conversation with my own grandparents.

But when the Holy Spirit gives you boldness?

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me.
(Act 1:8)

I’ve walked up to total strangers, adults, and have even spoken at entire random birthday parties to tell people about Jesus. Grown adults have literally yelled in my face in person for telling them about my God and I didn’t flinch.

There’s no way super-shy me could’ve done that without a big God on the inside!

The devil so desperately wants you to buy his lies of “you have social anxiety. You’re not called to do this. God’s not leading you to do this.”

But the devil is legit the father of all lies. Think God’s grace isn’t big enough to cover any of those things? Think again. Think God can’t use you? Think again.

Think God doesn’t want to use you? Only 5% of Christians tell another person about His Son He sent to die for the whole world. What do you think? Of course He wants to use you. You just have to let Him.

B O T T O M   L I N E :

Jesus wouldn’t have given us the Great Commission if we weren’t able to fulfill it. If you will let Him, God will use you. He’s so much more powerful than what you think may disqualify you.

If you have a desire to be used of God, be open to the Holy Spirit and watch the lives that will be touched through yours. The world has yet to see what a young or old man, woman, teen, or child fully sold-out for God can do. The whole world’s waiting on you; the only one holding you back is yourself!

This week, I challenge you.

Pray and ask God to use you in whatever way He wants. Be open to His lead. And whatever it looks like; whatever He tells you to do; do it!

Awesome post Madi! I have a question, I really want to spread the Word but I don’t want to push it… Do you have advice? I’ve been thinking my blog might be a good place to start because I have viewers from country’s all over the world.

Thanks, Katie! As for spreading the Word without pushing it, be bold, kind, and do it with excellence. Be kind when you share, but don’t back down; share it in ways that are irresistible. For example, you could create a photo story that’s so high-quality, even a non-saved person would adore it — and be reading the Word without feeling appalled to it. I hope that helps!

Amazing like always, Madi! I would never have guessed you were/are shy! (Though I can relate to not wanting to talk with your grandparents…)

Awww, that makes my day, Jewel! Thank you so much! <3

I take some pictures myself (for example, the graphics on my author blog are 99% made from my own pictures), but I've mostly been buying the ones on this blog from depositphotos.com. There are places to get free ones though, like unsplash.com or pixabay.com (just off of the top of my head). Haven't tried those places though. XD

GASP REALLY?! THANK YOU SO SO MUCH! *hugs you forever* THAT MADE ME DO A HAPPY DANCE IN MY COMPUTER CHAIR.

Ooh! Thank you so much, Madi! I definitely use the ‘too shy/awkward’ excuse way too much…this was a great reminder that we aren’t called to live in fear. I totally love your ‘radically’ picture/graphic! 🙂
