Finding Your God-given Purpose

Everyone has struggled with finding their purpose.

Why was I born? What am I here for?

Every human being on earth has a special, God-given purpose. To know our purpose, we must know the meaning of life (and I promise I didn’t get this off the inside of a Hallmark card ?).

“The meaning of life is to know God and make Him known.”

The meaning of life is to know God and make Him known. (John 17:3)  And hey, that’s even a catchy one-liner! ? To know God, we accept Jesus into our hearts as our Savior so we can have a relationship with Him. Once we establish (and keep up) a relationship with God – to know Him – we make Him known! (Mark 16:15)

This is my little brother, known as Nationshaker… or Russell. Russell works, too.

Which is pretty darn awesome. I mean, how many people can say that they’re an ambassador for the kingdom of Heaven and they’re on its payroll? (2 Corinthians 5:20) Best. job. ever. Oh, yeah, and did I mention the devil hates it when we serve God? Which is pretty darn fun. I mean, how many people can say that they professionally devil butt-kick for a living? Funnest. job. ever.

But – WAIT! Hold up just a minute there! How exactly do we make God known? We are all so different! We have different talents and gifts and areas of influence… how do we find out our each individual purpose of glorifying God (making Him known)?

Well, first, God has put things we love deep inside our hearts. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” He put things that we love to do inside of us. God gave us our personality, our likes, our dislikes, our hobbies. Our love for photography, sports, art, writing, you name it! And when we just give ourselves over to God and seek Him with our whole hearts…

Psalm 37:23 – “The steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord.”

“When we just focus on loving God and loving others, and putting God first and foremost above everything else, everything else will fall into place!”

When we just focus on loving God and loving others, and putting God first and foremost above everything else, everything else will fall into place!

Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for YOU,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future (a purpose) and a hope.”

We might not know right at this moment what our exact purpose in life is, but God does! And in Jeremiah 1:5, God says that He knew us before He even formed us in our mother’s womb. He knew the amazing plans and purposes that He has for us before even that!

And “amazing” plans and purposes would be the biggest understatement of the year. Like, check this out.

1 Corinthians 2:9 – “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have even entered into your heart the incredible, mind-blowing, unimaginably awesome things which God has prepared for YOU – who loves Him.”

Pretty awesome, right? We can’t even imagine what all kinds of epic things God is going to use us to do when we serve Him. And I have a pretty big imagination. Seriously, serving Jesus and being professional devil butt-kickers happens to be the best and highest paying job in the world with the most amazing benefits and rewards. Everyone thinks that if you serve Jesus, life will be hard and boring. But actually, if you serve the devil, life is going to be hard. Jesus said, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? … isn’t it hard for you to kick against the pricks?” (Acts 9:4-5) It’s not hard to serve the Lord. It’s hard NOT to serve the Lord. Without Jesus, your life is going to be pretty miserable… and so will your eternity!

In conclusion…

… God has placed things deep inside of us that we enjoy and that we love to do. When we delight ourselves in Him, and make Him the focus of our lives and the center of our world, He’ll bring about everything at just the right time!

Psalm 18:30 – “As for God, His way is perfect.”

God is never late. Like, He’s outside of time. Which is pretty darn cool. O.o God knows what He’s doing and He is ordering our steps if we keep delighting ourselves in Him!

We don’t have to be losers who end up getting nowhere in life or even somewhere God never planned for us to go and let the devil kick our butt. It’s up to us whether or not we are going to serve Jesus. It doesn’t matter if we haven’t served Jesus in the past. If we’ve accepted Him into our hearts, He’s just waiting on us. It’s our decision whether or not we’re going to step out and fulfill our God-given purpose. It is so much better than anything we could try to think up for ourselves! Seriously – nobody could even begin to imagine the kind of AWESOME purpose He has for you specifically. It’s such an indescribable, unimaginably INCREDIBLE plan.

Wanna know something? Not even I can fathom what the future holds or exactly what God has called me to do – this is just where He has me today. If you’re a young person, and you don’t know your exact purpose yet, that’s normal. God knows. And when we put Him above all else, He will show us and all else will fall into place! ?

I also have a post coming up this month on five epic ways to kick the devil’s butt in YOUR life RIGHT NOW. We don’t have to wait to start serving Jesus and never letting the devil forget that he (the devil) is defeated!

We were born for such a time as this (Esther 4:14)! Are you ready to kick some devil butt and show that stinking devil that you are going to let nothing hold you back from your incredible purpose and from fulfilling all that God has called and created you to do?
